We are a small business specialising in designing and creating early childhood resources along with a beautifully stocked range that compliments our handmade Play Discover Learn designs. We also carefully source a variety of second-hand early childhood picture books, games, and puzzles.
All resources are created and stocked with a focus on engaging children in their learning in a purposeful and meaningful way. Play Discover Learn is owned and operated by a qualified early childhood teacher and is based in Sydney, NSW.
This resource is based on The Zones of Regulation developed by Leah Kuypers.
The My Zones of Feelings Auslan Edition features 38 flash cards divided into four coloured zones: blue, green, yellow and red. The zones are designed to help your child to identify how they are feeling, and categorise their feelings based on colour.
Start by introducing your child to the four coloured zones. Use the descriptions of the zones on the back of this introduction card to help guide your explanation. Take your child through the different feelings presented on each card. You may wish to introduce a few feelings from each zone to start with, and add more as your child becomes familiar with the feelings in Auslan.
Try to talk to your child about strategies that can help them to feel good when they are experiencing different feelings within each zone. Use the reflection questions on the back of the cards to help prompt and guide your discussions.
Please note that the images displayed on each card are aimed to provide a broad understanding of the handshapes and movements required to sign different feelings in Auslan. It is recommended that you cross-reference these signs using resources within your local community.
These cards were developed in strong collaboration with multiple Auslan users, including Kirsten Mooney and David Grant.
Kirsten Mooney holds a Cert IV Auslan, a Bachelor in Special Education Primary R-7, Bachelor of Disability Studies, and has nearly obtained her Masters. She has been an Auslan teacher for five years, and is very passionate about working with the deaf community for inclusion and an accessible life.
David Grant is an actor, YouTuber, and Auslan user. David is the founder of the social media platform ‘Auslan with David’ where he makes learning Auslan more accessible to all Australians. He is a proud advocate of the LGBTIQ+ community, and passionately promotes equality for all.

My Early Childhood Philosophy -
Childhood is a unique time of life, to be enjoyed and valued. It is a time where the foundations for lifelong learning and wellbeing are laid. As a professional early childhood educator first and foremost in all that I do, is the rights of the child.
I acknowledge the traditional people of the land on which I live and work. I pay my respects to elders, past and present as they hold the traditions and hopes for the future of this land.
